The Maplewood Fire Department held their 2019 awards ceremony at the township committee meeting on February 19th. Members of the fire department received various recognition and merit awards for their actions performed throughout the year 2018.

The first award was an administrative award presented to members that took the time to utilize their skills and talents on their own time to design and create an on-site training facility behind fire headquarters.

The second award was a unit citation award presented to members that operated at a serious head-on collision involving a bus and a garbage truck that required extensive extrication and patient care.

The third award was a life saving award presented to members that successfully resuscitated a woman in cardiac arrest and ultimately survived.

The fourth award was a merit award presented to members that assisted Maplewood police officers with rescuing a woman from a house fire.

The final award was a civilian recognition award presented to Maplewood resident Jamie Skiles for designing a unique company logo to be displayed on Engine 32.

The Maplewood FMBA Local 25 would like to thank Mayor DeLuca and the entire township committee for allowing us to conduct this awards ceremony at the township committee meeting. We appreciate your continued support of the Maplewood Fire Department.

Would it help if there was an event where a guest speaker would relay information on the shopping list etc.. ? You want the recipient to feel like they gave the donors a shopping list and now they can spend the money they save on something that they are unable to buy like a new coat.

It’s a great thing to do as individuals. It also bonds the individuals who participate to the community. I would recommend food that the recipients are likely to use daily even today: nourishing, healthy food and maybe a sweet treat or two for the kids.
