CHANGE YOUR CLOCK, CHANGE YOUR BATTERY

 October 24, 2017

Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery Firefighters know the importance of home fire safety. That's why the Maplewood Fire Department encourages participation in the semi-annual home fire safety program called: Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery Sponsored by the International Association of Fire Chiefs and Energizer brand batteries, the program urges you to adopt a simple lifesaving habit: Change ALL of your Smoke Alarm / CO Alarm batteries when you change your clocks. Change your Smoke Alarm / CO Alarm batteries The Maplewood Fire Department encourages you to change Smoke Alarm / CO Alarm batteries at least once each year, but recommend twice a year each time you change your clocks. An easy way to remember is to change these batteries when you change your clock. This year the clocks are being set back one hour at 2:00 a.m. on November 5, 2017. Replace old batteries with fresh, high quality batteries to keep your Smoke Alarms / CO Alarms ready to protect you all year-long. Some newer style Smoke Alarms contain a 10-year sealed lithium battery that does not require changing each year, but should be replaced after 10 years. Check Your Smoke Alarms / CO Alarms After inserting fresh batteries in your Smoke Alarm / CO Alarm, make sure the Alarm is working by activating the safety test button. The Maplewood Fire Department recommends that you test all of your Smoke Alarms / CO Alarms at least once each month. If you have any doubt regarding the working condition of a Smoke Alarm / CO Alarm, we recommend you replace it. Count Your Smoke Alarms / CO Alarms The Maplewood Fire Department highly recommends that you have a properly functioning Smoke Alarm in every sleeping room in addition to the hallway within 10 feet of those rooms. If sleeping rooms are on an upper level, a Smoke Alarm should also be installed in the center of the ceiling directly above the interior stairway. It's best to have at least one working Smoke Alarm on every level of your home, including the basement and family room. In addition, a CO Alarm is required to be installed within 10 feet of all sleeping rooms. To assure optimal protection and avoid false alarms, your Smoke Alarm and CO Alarm must be mounted properly. You'll find simple instructions included with every Smoke Alarm and CO Alarm you purchase. Should questions remain, we encourage you to visit or contact us for help. Clean your Smoke Alarms / CO Alarms Help your Smoke Alarm / CO Alarm remain sensitive and ready to protect you by gently using a vacuum cleaner once a month to remove dust and cobwebs. If your Smoke Alarms / CO Alarms have been accidently painted or contaminated, replacement may be necessary. Retire your old Smoke Alarms / CO Alarms! Smoke Alarms / CO Alarms work every minute of every day. After millions of sensing cycles, they should be retired. Replace your Smoke Alarms with new devices every 10 years and CO Alarms after 5 years.

The Maplewood Fire Department held their 2019 awards ceremony at the township committee meeting on February 19th. Members of the fire department received various recognition and merit awards for their actions performed throughout the year 2018.

The first award was an administrative award presented to members that took the time to utilize their skills and talents on their own time to design and create an on-site training facility behind fire headquarters.

The second award was a unit citation award presented to members that operated at a serious head-on collision involving a bus and a garbage truck that required extensive extrication and patient care.

The third award was a life saving award presented to members that successfully resuscitated a woman in cardiac arrest and ultimately survived.

The fourth award was a merit award presented to members that assisted Maplewood police officers with rescuing a woman from a house fire.

The final award was a civilian recognition award presented to Maplewood resident Jamie Skiles for designing a unique company logo to be displayed on Engine 32.

The Maplewood FMBA Local 25 would like to thank Mayor DeLuca and the entire township committee for allowing us to conduct this awards ceremony at the township committee meeting. We appreciate your continued support of the Maplewood Fire Department.

Would it help if there was an event where a guest speaker would relay information on the shopping list etc.. ? You want the recipient to feel like they gave the donors a shopping list and now they can spend the money they save on something that they are unable to buy like a new coat.

It’s a great thing to do as individuals. It also bonds the individuals who participate to the community. I would recommend food that the recipients are likely to use daily even today: nourishing, healthy food and maybe a sweet treat or two for the kids.

TENTH emergency response of the day!!! Thank you men! Hoping everyone is safe and not seriously injured. Firefighters + EMS + Fire Safety Inspectors in one package, no wonder Manitou rated our Fire Department as one of the top in the nation! We are very privileged in Maplewood.

Great job!!!

Keep up the good work guys! God Bless & stay safe.

That’a way boys! Nice work!

10 incidents of one type are a lot in one day for a department of roughly 40 people, if I remember a post here in Facebook. There are other types/categories of incidents that fall on the FD’s shoulders during the day.

What street/intersection? Send a press release if you have one!

Great Job guys

Nice work gentlemen
